When I first started thinking about building a business, I made one big mistake:
I looked at what was working for everyone else, before asking myself what would actually work for me.
I signed up for courses that didn’t suit my strengths. Tried strategies that felt off. Pushed myself to show up in ways that drained me. The turning point?
Realising I didn’t have to follow someone else’s path. I needed to build something that fit me. My strengths, my personality, my lifestyle. And once I did? Everything started to feel lighter, more doable, and way more meaningful.
If you’ve been spinning in circles, second-guessing your business idea, or feeling like something’s just… off - this might be what’s missing.
1. Your Business Should Fit You - Not the Other Way Around
If a business model makes you feel boxed in or performative, it’s not freedom. It’s just another version of burnout waiting to happen.
If you’re introverted, you don’t have to show up on live video every day. If you crave depth, you don’t have to chase viral trends or rapid-fire sales funnels. What if your business could be built around what actually comes naturally to you?
Think about it:
Do you prefer writing, teaching, connecting, designing, supporting behind the scenes?
What gives you energy? And what drains it?
That clarity can be the difference between giving up and building something that lasts.
2. Playing to Your Strengths Makes Everything Smoother
When you lean into your strengths, things feel more flow and less force.
For example:
If you’re great at breaking down complex ideas → teaching or course creation could be a fit.
If you love personal connection → coaching, community-building, or a membership might suit you.
If you enjoy creating systems behind the scenes → digital templates or toolkits could be your thing.
In my case? I’ve always been someone who loves clarity, strategy, and helping others find direction. So instead of fighting that, I built my business around it. And it’s made all the difference.

3. Alignment = Motivation That Lasts
The fastest path to procrastination? Building a business that doesn’t feel like you.
Misalignment usually leads to:
Stalling - because deep down, you don’t want to do the thing.
Burnout - because forcing it drains more energy than it gives.
Doubt - because when something doesn’t flow, you start questioning yourself.
But when your business aligns with who you are?
You still have to show up - but it feels worth it.
It becomes sustainable, enjoyable, and rooted in your values. Which means you're more likely to stick with it when things get messy (because they will, and that’s normal).
4. So… How Do You Find the Right Business for You?
Here’s what helped me (and what I now teach inside my offers):
✅ Personality + Strengths Assessments
Tools like CliftonStrengths, DISC, or Myers-Briggs helped me understand how I naturally work, create, and connect. They’re not a magic formula, but they are a useful filter.
✅ Reflecting on Past Wins
What have people always asked for your help with?
What kind of projects light you up (even when they’re challenging)?
✅ Start Small. Test + Learn.
One tiny project can show you what works, and what doesn’t.
This doesn’t have to be one huge leap. It can be a few small steps in a direction that feels right.
